We were lucky enough to escape to Cairns this week for a well earned holiday. We spent the first three nights based in Cairns centrally so we could check out a few sights. Took a ride on train up to Karanda and caught the skyrail back down. The skyrail is pretty awesome, it would be great if they could get a similar setup in Hobart down Mount Wellington. The views would be sensational and it would be a great tourist attraction.
Here’s a shot from the skyrail:

We had lunch in Karanda and wandered around checking out the shops and markets and even stopped into a venomous animal zoo where we saw lots of snakes, spiders, scorpions and other assorted critters.
There were some nice textures to be found:
We also spend a day on Green Island swimming, snorkeling and cruising around in a semi-submersible boat checking out the great barrier reef. We saw lots of amazing fish, a couple of big sting rays and a very cool giant turtle. I didn’t take my camera, sorry!
This morning we headed up the coast a bit to Palm Cove where we’ll be for the next few nights at the Peppers Resort. Looking forward to some relaxing by the pool, a dip in the ocean and continuing to indulge in gourmet delights.
Here’s the view from the balcony of our spa suite:
I’ll try to update again before we leave, but I’ve been quite enjoying my time off the computer, so I can’t make any promises…
If you’ve emailed or phoned me whilst I’ve been away, I’ll do my best to get back in touch with you as soon as I can when I’m back on deck in the studio.
